![]() But regardless, the human characters are what they write best, and sometimes they have a similar vibe to our girls in JAW.Īnother thing that bothered me (but a really small thing) is that the music felt thrown in willy-nilly. Sometimes it wasn't written perfectly, other times I thought the direction was totally off from what it should have been. I can't tell if the directing and the writing just didn't connect, because there were a lot of lines that sounded off when they said them. Zac, Evie, Cam, and Carly are charming, and they do really well with what they're given, again. However, overall it was decently predictable and the mermaids weren't that interesting as the main characters. There were a few (just a few) times where I wasn't quite sure what would happen or how they'd do something. The show has some really captivating episodes. But the actors did well with what they were given.īut there are some real laugh out loud moments. The mermaids' personalities are never solidified, there's no three adjectives I could come up with for each mermaid, they all just fell a little short in terms of development. despite her not really being interested in him before he courted her.She has been emotionally vulnerable with Mimmi and Weilan, but never in the same way she was during the previously mentioned time, which seemed bizarrely out of character (for someone with so little character.). Ondina was only very emotional during the time when she and Eric were dating. ![]() Sometimes they even only apply to one episode! Or a small arc. And if there are, they're spelled out for you ("She has to know everything!"). Sure, they do things: Lyla and Ondina push people away and are rude, Mimmi is good with spells. and to be honest, I have a hard time pinning down their personalities. Evie is smart, adventurous, gets in a little over her head trying to do more than she can handle.īut then you look at the mermaids. Zac is fun and a little goofy, with a heart of gold, and a bit of a people pleaser. ![]() You can say exactly what they're like: Cam is a smooth-talking, pretty boy, likes to think he's good at everything guy with an interesting arc (about>! loyalty!<). They all have charm, strong wants and needs, and most of all: actual personality. But they're not bursting with personality like our girls on the contrary, the best characters by far are the humans. Each season switches up some of the mermaids, so the characters you finally attach to drop out and there are new mermaids you meet. Mako Mermaids is the spiritual successor to our beloved Just Add Water (JAW), and it takes real drive to actually get through. So let's start with what you want to know: as someone who only watched H2O, is it worth watching? The answer is a resounding. I hid the biggest spoilers I wrote here, but it's not major.
